Michelle Mann on Legal Affairs

Today, I'm using this space to show respect and give props to my dear friend Michelle Mann, who has decided to take the shivering plunge into the icy waters of blogdom. Michelle is one of them smart persons, with some excellent things to say about social justice, politics and law. She already appears on television shows, including as a regular guest on the Michael Coren Show on Wednesdays and writes for several publications, including CBC's online Viewpoint.

So, please take a look at her maiden post and re-visit often!!! You can view her blog, entitled Manndates here. Check out her bio/web site as well, here.

(See that Mish- I didn't even use the word fuck once! Oh fuck! Damn. Oops, I did it again. Sorry. What I meant to say was...awwwww f-get abowt it.)

Thanks. Unfortunately it'll be one more political voice lost in the destituted swamp of ignored media by the the PM's communications department.

Things are changing Peter. Mainstream media are picking up blog posts now- which are in turn monitored by the PMO and POs around the country. Have you already forgotten my blockbuster scoop in the Ottawa Citizen?

Yes, we really set the PMO spinning with our ever-so intriguing comments about darling Ashley.

No, they might be listening but they don't care.

Credible media are being ignored and shunned so why should spindoctors and special advisors heed or care about the ramblings of a blog?

Blogger K-Dough said...

No one is being ignored dude. The PMO is trying to create the optic that it is not going to pander to the media, that's all. It's a political strategy to look tough in front of the electorate.

You are fooling yourself if you think they aren't reading what's being written about them.

For personal development, ego-gratification and freedom of expression blogging is way cool.

But all should be warned- and I have the inside scoop (though I can't tell you why or how) - blogging is being taken seriously by the powers that be. If you are a good writer and know how to get your shit out there, what you have to say may indeed end up in the inbox of power brokers- sooner than later.

These things I know.

Yes, perhaps you're being idealistic and I'm being overly pessimistic. I hope I'm wrong but I don't expect blogging to make any difference. It's a medium for people to type their thoughts with no consequences... that is, unless you decide to run for politics. Most people will type what they want and not actually read/consider the other posted arguments/thoughts.

As I said, some blogs might be monitored but I doubt they will change the minds of (let alone inform) the public or a political office.

I suppose I'm being a complete contradiction for writing this in a blog. I don't mean to be crusty today, maybe I need a pint.

Blogger K-Dough said...

Peter- blogging is a medium of expression like any other, in that it helps to disseminate ideas.

I'm sure there were a lot like you around Guttenberg's time saying "books? pschaw. who cares. no one will read them anyway." Of course, those people are all dead now. You don't want to become like them do you?

You are indeed crusty today. Does it have anything to do with the fact that the Leafs are polishing up their irons today?

Yeehawwww!

You're suggesting, because I don't think Stephen Harper is going to change a policy because K-Dough wrote against it, that I will die like book-hating zealots?

Comparing books to blogs is quite a stretch... even for a Hab.

Yes, perhaps the lack of Stanley in Toronto is making me edgy today.

9:39 AM, April 19, 2006
Blogger K-Dough said...

I'm not talking about changing policies. I'm talking about being heard.

Lack of Stanley in Toronto? Look, I won't disclose your age, but I know it and by my calculations that means you've been edgy your whole life. I think talking about a cup in Toronto is quite a stretch considering the fact that you have to qualify for the playoffs first to even have a chance.

Hi all, my loss for missing the parties yesterday. Work is insane. (The bad "putting out fires and arguing with the team" insane, not the good "more business and money than I can count" insane.)
Just to let you know K-dough and Chucker, the slightly sit on the fence-ish Leatherhands is actually dipping his foot in politics. For real. Stay tuned. (On a low level, voluntary basis...in case you thought I was pulling an Ashley..)

leather- If you are indeed "pulling an Ashley" all I hope for your sake is that you are doing it in the privacy of your own home. I was arrested for pulling an Ashley on the TTC once. I'll never do that again.

BTW- we have missed you around here!

CS Lewis would have said, "we blog to know we aren't alone."

Even if no important person read our ramblings, who cares? as the namesake for K-Dough's post today points out: at the very least, its writing exercise; like a cross-word puzzle on steroids.

I know, but the Hurricanes have me worried. I wish we were up against those unelected Senators from Ottawa because we've thrashed them mightily in the season. The Canes? not so much.

Blogger K-Dough said...

Chucker- you are correct sir. With the Sens, we could've at least expected them to fold like the cheap lawn chairs they are.

But whatever- we are hot right now. The Habs have some hard-won confidence behind them and the best season stats since 92-93- the year of the 24th cup!!!

11:04 AM, April 19, 2006

The Habs are in 7th place.
The Sens are in 1st place.

Obviously you didn't watch the Sens play last night, or you would be worried. They are back, baby.
And I am SURE that the Habs are no threat. I would even bet on it.

true enough, K-Dough. and we tend to take down the big game in the first round. The Bruins are still crying about getting taught hockey by the 7th placers.

Pam, to steal a line from Don Cherry talking about Sweden, "your boys always win the important games..." har! har!

oooohhhhhhh yes, K. I betcha.
Lord Stanley's Cup WILL be in Ottawa.

Oh, yes.

Pam- if the Sens win the cup, I will post a pic of my ass and formally apologize for doubting them, on this site.

What will YOU do if they don't win the cup?

What would you like me to do? And I will hold you to your promise.

1:22 PM, April 19, 2006
Blogger K-Dough said...

Pam: If the Senators do not win the cup this year, I want you to publicly forsake your team for 24 hours, posting excessive heartfelt declarations of your undying love for les habitants on K-Dough's Canada.

Deal...or nor deal?

1:29 PM, April 19, 2006
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's a deal. I'm running the Toronto Marathon this fall, and I will run it in a Habs jersey if THEY win the cup.

1:32 PM, April 19, 2006
Blogger K-Dough said...

Now THAT sweetens the pot baby!!!
Although, a jersey may really affect your running time. I will accept a Habs t-shirt or equivalent scant apparel also.

Of course, we'll need proof...

1:35 PM, April 19, 2006
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I will post proof. They have finish line pictures so I can put up a link.
If it's cool enough for a jersey, I'll wear one and if not I'll wear a Habs tank.
But of course the Habs have to win first.

I can't wait to see your ass.

J-Dog/Pam- If the Habs exit the playoffs at any point, I promise to consume copious amounts of alcohol, and tearfully reminisce about past cups, which in my time on this earth have been plentiful and glorious.

I will then move on and cheer for any remaining Canadian team. First and foremost, though, in that case I promise to cheer for the Sens.

Should no Canadian teams remain, I will move on with my summer- wake boarding, biking, drinking, hanging with my peeps and playing with my sweet little daughter.

K-DOugh,
The Sens will not win the Stanley Cup. With the Dominator fucked up as badly as he is, their backup gaolies don't have what it takes to carry Rottawa through to the Cup. If Calgary's Kipper gets hurt, Calgary is fucked too. Forget about regular season shit, folks, the playoffs is anybody's season, as we are about to find out.

I would have agreed with you until last night, Squid. I think Emery might just have what it takes. If they do make it to the finals, I would rather see Emery as he is a rookie and at the start of his career. If he screws up, it will be like Lalime and I really don't want to see that again.

Huet will carry us well. Aebischer on the other hand should be warming the bench if Gainey has any sense (and I know he does).

I generally agree with Squid though - strange as that may sound. The playoffs are where heros are made, and often times they are unlikely heros at that.

I'm just up for the excitement of it all. Oh and, of course, the beer.

Hey hockey-heads,
Just got back from the mayor's luncheon. He's a good speaker and a charming guy. Problem was when they opened the floor to questions from the "business" audience. What a bunch of embarrassing lame ass-fucks. We needed some of these bloggers there. Badly.

Seems to me that( what's the opposite of straight in your lingo? Crooked?) OK,then, seems to me that any crooked guy who has an eye for Michelle's beauty ain't that Goddamm crooked. I'll say this though. You sure got good taste in women!

K-Dough,
Mayor Miller. It was a luncheon, but I was representing the BOT. I schmoozed and boozed big time afterward. I sat at a table next to Jane Pitfield (councillor who's gunning for the mayor's job) and a bunch of her 50+ female entourage. We all got a beer buzz and flirted shamelessly. You woulda been proud of me.

Squid,

Trust me, I am ALL gay, but yes, I do have good taste in women. Chalk it up to being comfortable with my sexuality and not worrying what people will think if I tell a beautiful woman she is beautiful.

In fact, as K-dough and a few others on this board can attest, I am a shameless flirt when it comes to the fairer sex. Now if only I could flirt with guys with the same sense of ease!

Yes, Homo is very complimentary to the fairer sex and often shames the Hets with his insight and velvet words.
