New Political Landscape

Apparently, there is a New Political Landscape in Canada, in the wake of the Quebec by-elections. But for those who fear change, the great news is that we still have the same old unimaginative, clichéd TV journalism you've been enjoying for years. Joy! Notwithstanding their common overstated generalization, the fact that these identical taglines ran at exactly the same moment on CTV Newsnet and CBC Newsworld two days ago, is, well, puzzlingly coincidental. Or is it? (cue undead Michael Jackson Thriller face and insane laughter):

Indeed K-Dough, big media has seen the writing on the wall, and has realised that the only way they can survive on the 5 billion channel interweb is by becoming one giant broadcasting monolith, and turning into one of those giant wideload flatbed trucks on the information superhighway.

To this I say, thank god. I tire of the differing viewpoints and challenging of opinions, and ache, nay pine for hegemony again!

Ha! Yes, homogeneity is good for society. I can't wait until Ted Rogers finally owns the corner store on my street so those damn Koreans who work there will stop being so different.

Speaking of Ted Rogers, he was just at Indigo here in Toronto as part of their "Entrepeneur" Series.

I attended, a learned a lot from him about life, love and poetr- oh wait, that was Leonard Nimoy. I learned nothing from Ted Rogers. All I wanted to hear him say was that he was lucky.

Actually, that's all you ever want to hear these guys say, not that they have some kind of special gift, but that they were really, really lucky. But they don't. So I will retire now, Nimoy's chilling love poetry in hand, and beat a pasty retreat back to wherever it is I came from.

Thank you again K Dough, for your soothing, damning words.

True anecdote: there is a long walkway along an old Holland river shipping route in East Gwillimbury (just a quick walk from where I live) filled with stunning remains of large abandoned locks, and overgrown evidence of a much larger river where now only a creek remains. Gorgeous.
My kids and I finally made it to the other end one day, and realized it was called "Roger's Park".
Upon seeing this sign, my nine-year old loudly exclaimed "I'm never coming back here again! We'll get a bill for this!"

LOL!!!! Fucking hilarious!

If you play your cards right, next time they will bundle in birds chirping with the sound of a babbling brook- and only charge you 80% of what it would normally cost for 2 nature sounds.

Yes, but they'll nail you with a $200 penalty if you decide to go home early. This (scroll to the bottom for the email from Astroboy) Rogers experience is typical but hilarious if you read it with a Newfoundland accent
