Don Cherry Elbows Canadian Women

Don Cherry is always the first ignorant loud mouth to say:
Why can't we be more like the Americans? Canadians are socialist wimps. Americans wouldn't disrespect their country.
Well Don, I'll tell you something else the Americans wouldn't do- tone down their athletic performance in a competitive sport for the sake of making it look like they weren't superior.
Neither would Austrian skiers. Neither would Kenyan runners. Neither would...well, you get the point.

So, which is it Don: Are we wimps or bullies? Keep your stick on the ice and your sound-bite seeking gooberish mug out of the Olympics, numb nuts.

Excellent! Leave it to our starched-collared blow-hard to insult his people for a change.
I pity our althletes and teams over there in Italy, they barely receive any funding, they get insulted if they don't place, and now that we finally do well this year, they get insulted for doing too well. Well, which is it?
Canadian Women's Hockey - Keep it and keep scoring!

wtf?

I'm astonished that he would make comments like this... for that matter - that anyone would... isn't the point of going to the olympics to do the best you can? to tone down performance so as not to hurt anyone's feelings is ridiculous... the europeans are adults... suck it up!

good for the canadian women's hockey team! keep it up!

Can you imagine the response from the mainstream media and Cherry if the women's team choked? They'd be all over those girls like a duck on a Junebug saying it how disgraceful it is.

An additional comment to this situation was a recent international call to cancel women's hockey from Olympic competition. Comments?

Personally, I think it's a reaction from the lesser teams/countries who aren't at our girls' level yet. I heard a stat recently that we have 60,000+ women actively playing women's hockey. Russia on the other hand (usually a powerhouse for hockey) only has 250. Give them time, and it'll be just as exciting as the other sports.

As far as optics go, I think it would be a very bad move for the Olympic committee to do such a thing. The backlash from feminists, women's advocacy groups, and the women's sports world in general would be strong.

Ultimately, they will do what they want to do. If there is absolutely no competition for the Canadian or US teams, maybe they shouldn't be in the Olympics? It would be a difficult argument to have on both sides. What other Olympic sports are monopolized by only two countries to the point that no one else has a hope in hell for the Gold and Silver spots? (btw- that was a question, not a rhetorical statement)

I think deep down Donny-boy resents the whold concept of women's hockey. Chicks with Sticks. Somehow it threatens his masculinity in a way that kissing Douggie Gilmour on national TV never did.

Do ducks like June bugs? Hmmm. Never knew that.

Anyway, Cherry is a loudmouthed twit who's fashion sense matches his common sense.

Mr. Cherry is a pompous ass. Not only that, he's a bit of a 'starched-collar' girlie man all right.

Talks a good game for someone that's never played in a real one.

At least with Liberal MP Ken Dryden, another ex-hockey player buffoon, cum politician, we know why he's as dumb as a post.

Too many pucks in the head, unlike Don Cherry, who has too many thoughts of grandeur crammed in there to leave room for the frightening notion that Canadian women kick ass better than his 'boys' do.

He's a bit of a Mr. Stiffy now, all snotty and arrogant. Ugh.

I wonder if Cherry's lost a bit of his smug self-righteousness now that the men's team have lost.

If only they'd taken a leaf out of the women's playbook, and tried to RUN UP THE SCORE A LITTLE...
